Hi all, Happy Independence Day, Pardon me if I go wrong anywhere. My friend asked me yesterday why we remember the words such as Jai Hind or Vande Mataram only on 15th August or 26th Jan, We change our profile pictures to tri-colour, and we suddenly realise that we are INDIANS. Why don’t we remember it when we watch pirated movies online, why don’t we remember that when we celebrate the voting day as a holiday, when we see a corrupt government officer taking bribe in front of us and we never gather the courage to fight against it, when we get attracted to western culture forgetting that we have our own rich and ancient culture, when we go to our very old monuments and throw rubbish around, when we see Taj Mahal deteriorating in its appeal and we do nothing but curse the government, we see politicians doing nothing for the country’s security ,when international players deny to play in India due to lack of security-we watch the news , discuss about it and then change the channel. Our police still fight the AK-47 with a pistol and lose their precious lives. We pay just a shradhanjali to them, government compensates their life for some thousands and continues to pay the other policemen 3000 Rs month and a pistol and we do nothing. After the train blast in Mumbai, we panic for a day and start our routine on the very next day and the media call it as the “Spirit of Mumbai”, but we question no one. When America put even a minor suspect under detention, Here we, seeing Kasab on CCTV-killing people just like that, our government files a case against him and also allocates him an advocate and still we watch the news and keep quite. We do nothing when Ambika Soni questions the existence of Ram.
Catholic follow Bible, Muslims worship Kuran how many of us have read the Bhagavad-Gita completely? Our country holds ancient knowledge in terms of Ayurveda, Vedas, and Upanishads and so many others that we can’t even imagine. We have the most ancient Indus civilisation; we are the fastest growing economy and so many things that we are proud of.
We say the British divided our country in two parts but do we ever think...Dint we deserve that? We killed each other like animals, we fought in the name of religion..we did let them divide us and rule us. We were the “sone ke chidiya” and now just another developing country, Have we ever thought that buildings built by British years ago are still intact but the a flyover built just a few years ago collides to ground..why? If we still continue to be negligent about the things around us then there will be a time when India will be broken into pieces with names such as Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Andhra, Bengal and Punjab and so on.
When we take the pledge in school we say “India is my country and all Indians are my brothers and sisters” but never mind to fight in the name of religion. We say “I love my country and I am proud of its rich and varied heritage” but never mind to ruin it! Are we also proud of Asia’s biggest slum Dharavi? Do we do anything for the people living in those slums? We say “I shall always strive to be worthy of it.”... Do we really do that? We say “I shall love my parents, teachers and all elders, respect, and treat everyone with courtesy “but we do not mind the politician thrash an elderly man just because he is from UP. We say “To my country and my people, I pledge my devotion.”In the country where voting is not 100% what devotion we oath for? “In their well being and prosperity alone, lies my happiness” Let us ask ourselves is that true? Half of us will say it’s not practical...that is our generation...But if Bhagat singh at the age of 23 would have been practical he would have survived! That was the youth at that time.
As the youth what do we do? Continue to indulge over Orkut, Facebook, and youtube. Wearing Indian clothes, eating Indian food, watching Hindi movies will not make us a true Indian. Watching Akshay Kumar’s Namste London clip and commenting over it won’t make us true Indian. But carrying out our responsibilities well will. Let us take a pledge today that we will not be Indians only by our names but by our heart, by our culture, by our behaviour and will do everything that is required to save its pride. Only we can do it, no one else can, we are the youth and we should not let our next generation ask what we mean by Bharat mom.
With no health infrastructure, a corrupt system, no security, floods every year, suicides of farmers and terrorist attacks we are going to go nowhere but hell. For the years we have kept quiet and have neglected, Let us stop this now!
So on our 63rd Independence day let us take our pledge very seriously and work over it. As my friend correctly says we are the source to everything around us. Our generation has seen India from Durdarshan to Multiplexes, from post offices to broadband internet. When they listen to the word Indian...they just remember curry and poverty, when they watch slumdog millionaire they think the whole India is Dharavi, Let us change their minds and let them think of richness, culture, development and honesty and all the good things in the world when we they hear..INDIA. So let us make sure that we work towards making India a better place, a developed country with its rich culture and heritage preserved.
On every 31st we take a revolution for ourselves, this 15th August let us take a revolution for our country...Our India
Let us bring our youth connection here, appeal to everyone and work over it!
